Beginning Faith Formation “Little Church”
This is for ages 3-6 years old (Sundays only) during the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses. The class is for children in Preschool or Kindergarten. The children will be dropped off in the Church Hall while the parents attend Mass. The children will begin to hear the word of God based on the Sunday Gospel for that week. The children will also be introduced to the Sign of the Cross, Prayers, Special Feast Days, a tour of the Church and will participate in special events.
Primary Grades and Junior High
The Religious Education process supports the catechetical ministry of the Catholic Church, and is in conformity with the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. The contents of the Faith Formation Process flows from each Sunday’s Gospel readings, using the Pflaum Faith Program “Gospel Weeklies”. The students will learn their Faith within the pace and seasons of the Liturgical Year, and will learn to build a relationship with Jesus. This program is for First Year Students school grades 2nd to 8th grade experiencing what the church teaches and believes.

Sacramental Preparation for Second Year Primary Levels and Junior High
Sacramental preparation is for students who have completed First Year Faith Formation and are ready to journey towards receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Sacramental preparation will be using “Blessed”, a Dynamic Catholic experience designed to prepare young Catholics for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. The students and families will experience a Reconciliation Retreat in the fall and First Eucharist Retreat in the spring.

Continuing Faith Formation
Students in grades 3rd to 8th Grade who have completed a two year Faith Formation Process and have received the Sacrament of Eucharist are welcome to continue the Faith. Faith Formation and a relationship with Jesus does not stop after receiving First Holy Communion, students must continue to reach a higher relationship with Christ Jesus, growing Spiritually and closer to God, and with the Holy Spirit. Continuing Faith Formation is highly encouraged for all children.

New Registration Sign-ups for 2023-2024 will start after the 9am, 11am, and 1pm Masses, (Sunday’s) July 23, July 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27, and Sept. 10.

This is a faith-building worship experience for families and children in our parish. At this masses we have the children actively singing in the Children’s Choir, serving as Altar Servers, proclaiming the Word of God, sitting down with the priest or deacon to discuss the readings, helping the Ushers take up the collection, bringing up the Bread and Wine and gathering around the altar for the Eucharistic Prayer.
Real life activities, such as Trunk a Treat, Advent Celebration “A Walk to Bethlehem”, Posada, Children’s Christmas Mass (reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for a room in the Inn). Christmas Eve, 4:00pm. Stations of the Resurrection (what happens after Easter) for children. Vacation Bible School (VBS) and more events throughout the year to help and guide students through their Faith Journey.

Religious Education Registered Families are encouraged to connect with our Deacon couple, Dennis and Christina Shin for the Christian Parenting Course. The course is based on Family Life’s “Art of Parenting. The course introduces parents on how to deal with the real-world challenges of raising children today, and how to make Faith the core of Parenting.
Families are invited to participate in all Religious Education Seasonal Events and Parish Faith Formation Programs offered by St. Denis. (Please check the website at stdenis.org)
The Office of Safeguard the Children provides ongoing support, education, training and resources to help prevent child sexual abuse and to address children’s safety in our parishes, schools, homes and communities.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs are required to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults program.
All clergy, paid parish/school personnel and volunteers who work regularly in a supervisory role with children or youth must be fingerprinted.
