The Sacrament of Annointing of the Sick
What is Annointing of the Sick
The Catholic Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. This Ministry is a calling to serve those individuals who are ill. We invite all parishioners to pray for those people in our parish who are being served by our ministry.
Anointing of the sick is a sacrament that is offered to those undergoing serious illness or people who have grown weak under the burden of years. In our parish, if you wish to be anointed, please call the parish office and one of the priests on duty will arrange a convenient time to visit you in your home, nursing home or hospital.
Additionally, during the church year, we schedule a number of times to celebrate the sacrament of Anointing within the celebration of the Eucharist. Usually once during the Fall and once during the Spring, we will offer the sacrament in a community setting.
How Do I Participate
Please call the Pastoral Office day or night at (909)861-7106 to reach a priest in an emergency. In case of illness that is not life-threatening, this sacrament is a comfort and a source of healing spiritually, emotionally and sometimes, physically. Please call the parish office during regular office hours to set up an appointment with a priest to come to a home or medical facility.
